Reading the 2012 Riots
Tim Newburn, from the London School of Economics, made a contribution to the 2012 Annual Conference of the European Society of Criminology, in the category “Crime and Society,” under the title “Reading the 2012 Riots”. Here is the abstract: This paper looks at the English riots inside and outside London. Based on in-depth interviews with 270 people involved in the riots, it examines the nature of the disorder in five English cities (London, Birmingham, Manchester, Salford and Liverpool), looking in detail at who was involved, the extent and nature of their participation, and at their accounts of what prompted or motivated their actions.[rtbs name=”criminology”]
