In accordance with the work A Dictionary of Law, this is a description of Civil Court : A court exercising jurisdiction over civil rather than criminal cases. In England the principal civil courts of first instance (*court of first instance) are the *county courts and the *High Court. *Magistrates’ courts have limited civil jurisdiction, mainly confined to matrimonial proceedings.
