Committee of Selection Meaning, as used in the UK Parliament

The Committee of Selection comprises nine Members. It is established under Private Business S.O. 109 to nominate Members to serve on General and Select Committees of the House of Commons.

Nominations to Select Committees are first published in Future Business (Part B) and then in the relevant day’s Order Paper when the nominations are set down to be considered by the House.

The decisions of the Committee regarding nominations to general and private bill committees are published in the daily Votes and Proceedings. The Committee of Selection does not take evidence.
