The editor’s introduction to this volume constitutes a very substantial monograph on forest law and organization in the 13th century. The full text of the Charter of the Forest of 1217 is included.

Abstract: The cases included are taken from the Rotuli Coronatorum found among the Assize rolls at the PRO. The coroners had their own rolls which were produced before the Justices of Assize. Most are of inquests, but there are some records of appeals of felony conducted by coroners before trial.
