Meaning of Crown Pleas, or Pleas of the Crown
The following is an old definition of Crown Pleas, or Pleas of the Crown [1]: Criminal causes. Opposed, common pleas: civil actions between subject and subject. The king, in whom centers the majesty of the whole people, is the person supposed to be injured by every infraction of public rights, and is the proper prosecutor. See King.
