Definition of Decree Nisi

In accordance with the work A Dictionary of Law, this is a description of Decree Nisi : A conditional decree of divorce, nullity, or presumption of death. For most purposes the parties to the marriage are still married until the decree is made absolute. During the period between decree nisi and decree absolute the Queen’s Proctor or any member of the public may intervene to prevent the decree being made absolute and the decree may be rescinded if obtained by fraud.

Definition of Decree Nisi

A decree nisi can be applied for if neither party is defending the divorce petition. It is a conditional divorce.
