Definition of Derivative Title

In accordance with the work A Dictionary of Law, this is a description of Derivative Title : A claim of sovereignty over a territory, that territory having previously belonged to another sovereign state. Derivation of title to territory involves the transfer (*cession) of title from one sovereign state to another.
