Designated Family Judge in relation with the Courts and Tribunals in England

A senior judge who deals with two sorts of work:

• Private cases – disputes involving parents about their children, e.g. who they should live with, where they should go to school.

• Public work – when local councils take action to remove children from their parents’ care because they are at risk in some way.

DFJs are authorised under Section 9(1) of the SCA.
