Municipal Corporations History
Set up by the Municipal Corporations Act 1835 to democratise and regulate the way Councils were elected and run. It provided relevant services as required by statute. By 1945 they were expected to deliver a wide range of education and health services in their area.
Debentures in Municipal Corporations and County Councils
These bodies were authorized to borrow for their proper purposes on debentures and debenture stock with the sanction of the Local Government Board. See the Municipal Corporations Act 1882, the Local Authorities’ Loans Act 1875, and the Local Government (England and Wales) Act 1888.(1)
