Definition of Affiliation Order

In accordance with the work A Dictionary of Law, this is a description of Affiliation Order : Formerly, an order of a magistrates’ court against a man alleged to be the father of an illegitimate child, obliging him to make payments towards the upkeep of the child. Affiliation proceedings have been abolished by the Family Law Reform Act 1987 and financial provision for illegitimate and legitimate children is now the same (See child support maintenance).
