Definition of Freedom of Thought, Conscience, And Religion

In accordance with the work A Dictionary of Law, this is a description of Freedom of Thought, Conscience, And Religion : A right set out in Article 9 of the European Convention on Human Rights and now part of UK law as a consequence of the *Human Rights Act 1998. While freedom of thought itself is an *absolute right, and as such not subject to public-interest limitations, the right to manifest one’s beliefs or religion is a *qualified right; therefore the public interest can be used to justify an interference providing that this is prescribed by law, designed for a legitimate purpose, and proportionate.
