Definition of Bay
In accordance with the work A Dictionary of Law, this is a description of Bay :
A well-marked roughly semicircular indentation on a coastline. What does or does not constitute a bay can be of relevance in determining a state’s control of its coastal waters. The test is a geographical one, taking into account relative dimensions and configuratio The following three considerations have been taken into account when making this determination:
(1) the depth of the indentation relative to the width of its mouth;
(2) the economic and strategic importance of the indentation to the coastal state; and
(3) the seclusion of the indentation from the highway of nations on the open sea.
