Concept of Quarter Days

Traditional meaning of quarter days [1] in the English common law history: In England, the 25th of March, Lady day; the 24th of June, Midsummer day; the 29th of September, Michaelmas day; the 25th of December, Christmas day. In Scotland, the 2d of February, Candlemas; the 15th of May, called Whitsunday; the 1st of August, Lammas day; the 11th of November, Martinmas.
