Concept of Bote, Boot

Traditional meaning of bote, boot [1] in the Saxon law history: Compensation; reparation; an allowance; an estover. Housebote: an allowance of wood to the tenant for repairing the house; haybote or hedgebote, for his hedges; ploughbote or cartbote, for his implements of husbandry; firebote, for fuel.
